Opening Hours
We are open from 8 am to 6:30 pm on Monday to Friday. We are not open at the
weekends, but there is a surgery at St Martins Health Centre on a Saturday
morning for Emergencies only. Please note
that after 6 pm the telephone calls transfer to the Primary Care Centre at the
Hospital and so you will not be able to ring us after 6 pm.
About Cobo
Cobo Health Centre is situated just off the beautiful West Coast beaches.
Originally purpose built it
was opened in 1974 and became part of the Healthcare Group in January 1991. It
is situated in the Route de Carteret, close to Cobo Village, National
Westminster Bank and the West Coast
road. The staff are experienced and friendly, and they will do their be to help
you. They understand that it can be difficult if you are not feeling well.
There is a Pharmacy in the Surgery, which is run by a separate company
called Healthcare Pharmacies (there is a link to their Web Site on the
Links Page). There is always a Pharmacist on hand to answer any
questions you may have or help with your medications.
Meet the Doctors
At Cobo we have five Partners. We also have help from two assistants. There
are three lady doctors who work here.
Dr Ian Gee was born and educated in Guernsey. He trained at University College in London and then joined the RAF. He
completed his GP training in 1991 and left the RAF in 1995 to return to
Guernsey. During his time in the RAF he served in Holland, Germany, Northern
Ireland, Scotland and England. His medical interests include diving and aviation
medicine, family planning, paediatrics and psychiatry. He is one of the
Healthcare Group Doctors who works in the Accident and Emergency Department. Outside of medicine he
likes boating and is a computer enthusiast. He helps with the IT within the
practice. He is married to Sandra who is a qualified
midwife, but at present is working in the insurance industry. He also carries
out Civil Aviation Authority Medicals for pilots, air traffic controllers and

Dr Stewart McKerrell was born in Scotland and trained at Glasgow University,
graduating in 1982. A member of the Royal College of General Practitioners, he
came to Guernsey in 1992 and is married with three children. He is interested in
skin diseases, homeopathy, childbirth and children’s diseases, but is mainly a
family practitioner. He does most of the treatment at Cobo for small skin
lesions, warts and verrucae with Liquid Nitrogen.
Dr James Ray started working for the Practice in 2002 and became a Partner at
the start of 2003 on
the retirement of Dr Biggins and Dr Erskine. After qualifying form Charing
Cross and Westminster Medical School he went to the Hammersmith Hospital in
London where he undertook three years basic surgical
training. Following that he
commenced his General Practice Training which led to working in Guernsey. He
became a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners in 2002. His
special interest are in Minor Surgery, Cardiology, Mental Health and Child
Health. He carries out all of the Minor Surgery on a Tuesday morning. He is one
of the Healthcare Group Doctors who works in the Accident and Emergency
Department. Since
moving to Guernsey he has taken up sailing.
Dr Philip Simpson graduated at Manchester University Medical School. He is a
member of the Royal College of Physicians and has diplomas in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and Child Health. He is a family doctor who has a particular
interest and experience in paediatric medicine and has worked in Guernsey since
1984. He also has a special interest in Occupational Health.
Dr Ruth Taberner
has enjoyed working as a general family doctor in Guernsey
since 1990. She lives with her husband and son Max who was born in 1997. She has
diplomas and particular interests in children’s health and family planning and
has recently gained a Masters Degree in Child and Family Psychotherapy.
Assistants
Dr Petra Palmeri was born in Cordoba in Spain. She did her medical
training at Cordoba University and qualified in 1993. She completed her General
Practice training in England in 1999 when she moved to Guernsey with her husband
Peter and son Ian. She has a particular interest in Acupuncture and is a member
of the British Medical Acupuncture Society. Petra also has a diploma in Family
Planning. She has recently gained a Certificate in the Mechanism and Management
of Allergic Diseases from the University of Southampton. Following on from this
she has set up an Allergy Clinic at St Martins Health Centre.
Dr Whitford Andrews is a graduate of the University of Bristol. Married
to Heather Reed, Consultant Gynaecologist at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital and
Medical Specialist Group. They have two children,
Laura and Gareth. Whitford is a family doctor and his interest in Sports
Medicine combines well with his other role as Assistant Coach and Medical
Officer to the Guernsey Rugby Football Club. Dr Andrews works at Cobo, Rohais
and St Martins surgery and the staff will be happy to advise you when he is at
Cobo.
Dr Maria Wesson is married
to Dr Ray and works part time here at Cobo Health Centre. At present she works
on a Monday and Tuesday morning. She has a special interest in women's health.
As well as being a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners, she has
a diploma in Child Health. She speaks fluent Spanish and is bringing up her two
children to be bi-lingual as well.
