Primary Care Centre

In order to provide a better level of care out of working hours, the local General Practitioners in conjunction with the Hospital Authorities set up the Primary Care Centre. This is based in the Fracture Clinic up at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital. In the weekday evenings after 6 pm the calls from all three Practices are transferred to the Primary Care Centre (PCC). On a Saturday after 12 noon until 8 am on the Monday morning, the calls are also answered in the PCC. The Night Owls staff the service. It means that we are able to offer a much more professional service out of hours.

If you need to be seen outside normal working hours, then you will be able to give your details to the Night Owls who will then give you a time to come up to the PCC. If you are not able to get there, then they will be able to advise you what to do. The PCC is located close to the Accident and Emergency Department, and so in this way we are able to offer a more complete service. If your condition cannot be dealt with in the PCC then you may be taken to A & E for further assessment, investigation and treatment.

The three Primary Care Practices (ie Healthcare, L'Aumone & St Sampsons and Queens Road) share the work in the Primary Care Centre. So, you may not see a doctor from your own practice. The Doctor that you do see will, however, send the details of your consultation to your own GP for inclusion in your notes.

The Primary Care Centre is there to deal with Emergencies only. They will not be able to make appointments for your normal surgery, order repeat prescriptions, ask about test results, referral letters etc. All these issues should be directed to your normal surgery during normal office hours. If you are not sure then you can ring and the Night Owl will be happy to advise you.
